The “1st World Youth Meeting for a Sustainable Future” in Bari seek to reiterate the importance of the contribution of youth in the efforts to address the challenges of sustainability in all its facets: economic, social and environmental!
The Meeting has been organized by the Italian government and the Regione Puglia, in the context of the initiative “Ni, mondlokaj civitanoj- We, Global Local citizens” (NMC) to promote sustainable development and youth participation in decision-making at both local and global level. It brought together 500 youth delegates from 90 countries and more than a 1000 participants, actively involved in community and local action, implementing innovative ideas and promoting change. The Meeting included a series of workshops addressing five thematic clusters: Education; Citizenship/civic engagement; Environment/Climate change; Human Safety and Development; Labor, entrepreneurship and economy.
UNESCO, along with other UN agencies and IGOs (among others), contributed in the conception of the meeting and participated actively in it by associating its youth networks (Youth Forums’ delegates, youth organizations, UNESCO youth clubs and centers), channeling the results of the 6th UNESCO Youth Forum to the work of the Meeting, moderating thematic workshops, including a session on the Global Strategy on Youth.
In this context, UNESCO chose a minimum of 100 youth delegates to participate, between 18 and 30 years old.
Two representatives of Youthforpt, were chosen during the selection, as they were considered
“Agents of change within their societies, primarily at the community level, leading innovative approaches to stimulate political, social and cultural advances related to the thematic clusters addressed by the Meeting ; and be able to spread learning and outcomes within their communities and networks in order to multiply the conference impact.”
Anne Louise and Ivan were talking about Y4PT with the participants they met, in 1 to 1 based conversations and in groups.
