The UITP Indian Youth Parliament started to work in Delhi this Saturday the 16th of January, to present is final report during the Delhi Symposium on BRT and Public Transportation, organized by DIMTS.
Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Ltd. (DIMTS) is a Joint Venture Company set up with equal equity of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC).
DIMTS is an urban transport and infrastructure services company aiming to develop and deliver world class urban infrastructure to the citizens of Delhi, primarily in the area of urban transport.
This time two groups of young people from Universities and Schools , are working on a technical report preparation and a video, to be presented at the opening Ceremony of the Symposium held at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi this coming 20th of January 2010.
The technical report, will preview two parts: a detailed and full of figures and numbers on the transport situation in Delhi and India, and a second part, a kind of abstract of summary, in order to reach the heart of young people and all users of pt , with less technical details on it. ( more on this to come soon).
Universities students are going to shoot a video in the streets of Delhi this Sunday 17th of January , and get everything assembled these next days to come !
Here below some comments on their side:
“When we started on this project, we had no idea what we had got ourselves into .The crux of the matter we later found was simply to use our imagination while still retaining our rationality, a harder task that it sounds.
After the initial disorientation had faded,we found that the ideas came thick and fast, imaginative ideas, hastily scrawled up in notebooks for future perusal . If public transport is made pervasive,we concluded, there would be lesser need for private transport.
As the project was divided into various parts including video, technical report, story board our group had decided to work upon the technical report and as we commenced to work upon it we found that it would be better to directly approach the youth to connect to their hearts and not to the government. ”
