Flash Mob 18 September 2011: a tribute to INIT

September 8, 2011 Events, General, Partners

After our successful 2010 Flash mob “Public Transport makes us feel like home”, which attracted hundreds of young people in 10 cities across the globe, we call once more on young people to support improved urban mobility through public transport, in a new edition of the worldwide event, under the theme “Public Transport makes us free!”

This event is supported by INIT, a leading supplier in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and fare collection systems. INIT has been assisting transportation companies worldwide since 1983 in making public transport more attractive, faster and more efficient.

INIT’s visionary leader, Jurgen Greschner and his team have been supporting our projects since a couple of years already. Now we are happy that they are also with us on our second worldwide flash mob.

Next 18 September, on the official Car-free day, young people in Bogota, Brasilia, Brussels, Dubai, Yekaterinburg, Guadalajara, Helsinki, Kathmandu, Melbourne, Monterrey, New Delhi, Rome, Salvador de Bahia, Sao Paulo, Sohar, Tallinn, will unite to affirm their commitment to public transport and to demonstrate that mobility-related issues, such as sustainability, respect for the planet, urbanism and social inclusion form an essential part of their lifestyle.

Each city will perform, distribute information and launch a new contest on line on innovative projects in collaboration also with EBSF, the European Bus System of the Future Project.

I first met INIT leader Greschner, during a trip to the UITP MENA Region, and he immediately caught the importance of the Y4PT Youth Project: he has considered youth as a priority and has shown its commitment to support the vision of young people in our quest for a change in the Public Transport and for a sustainable world.   Through the sponsoring of a series of initiatives – youth parliaments, workshops and cooperation programmes, INIT proved to be on our side to fight for a better sustainable world.

Six years of positive results have made Y4PT what it is today: the only international youth network that shares knowledge and experiences of promoting sustainable urban mobility.

The worldwide Flash Mob is one way of confirming Y4PT’s wills to motivate more and more young people around the world and it aims to promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.
